65 Years of Marriage

Loran R. Braught and Ruth E. Allen married Sept. 26, 1954 at Des Moines, Iowa.
Sixty-five years later they reside at Westminster Village in Terre Haute and plan a very informal open reception with no gifts at about noon Oct. 6, 2019 in Maple Avenue Methodist Church.
The Braughts have three sons and five grandchildren. Loran retired as a university professor emeritus and Ruth retired as a public school reading teacher.
They were both Boy Scout Silver Beaver Award recipients, Indiana Genealogy Society life members, members of Phi Delta Kappa National Honor Education Society, life-long active Methodist Church members, and active civic leaders in both Iowa and Indiana.
Ruth was a chapter president and state leader of PEO, Iowa State Horse Show Ring secretary, and avid horse trainer. In Indiana she was a Golden Apple Teacher award recipient, state Reading Association chapter president, and known artist.
Loran was an All-American high school and university swimmer, president of both Iowa and Indiana Amateur Athletic Union, and member of the National AAU Executive Committee, secretary of the U.S. Olympic Judo Committee, and member of the National Sullivan Awards Committee. He was founder of the Wabash Valley Genealogy Society, and recipient of the Indiana Reading Association Outstanding Leader award.
